Overview

The GRÓ GEST programme is a comprehensive, one-semester postgraduate-level programme (30 ECTS) offered by the University of Iceland. This highly regarded academic initiative is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and expertise to drive impactful change in the field of gender equality on a global scale.

The programme is scheduled to run from January to May 2026 and provides an immersive and intensive learning environment where participants engage in rigorous academic coursework, practical training, and interdisciplinary discussions. Through a combination of lectures, research projects, workshops, and interactive sessions led by experts in the field, participants will deepen their understanding of gender-related issues while developing strong analytical and leadership skills.

By the end of the programme, graduates will be well-prepared to take on influential roles as gender equality advocates, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in various sectors, including governmental organizations, non-profits, academia, and international development agencies. The GRÓ GEST programme fosters a diverse and collaborative learning atmosphere, encouraging participants to exchange experiences, perspectives, and innovative solutions to promote gender justice and social transformation worldwide.

Eligibility Criteria

The programme welcomes nominations from organizations of young professionals who meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have at least one university degree at the BA/BS/BEd level.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both spoken and written English is required.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience relevant to enhancing gender equality.
  • Age: Priority will be given to individuals under the age of 35.
  • Leadership Potential: Candidates should have leadership skills and be in positions where they can act as agents of change.
  • Commitment to Gender Equality: Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting gender equality.
  • Country Eligibility: Candidates must be nationals and residents of low or middle-income countries, or from conflict/post-conflict societies that are eligible to receive Official Development Assistance (ODA) according to the most recent DAC (Development Assistance Committee) list.

Nomination Process

Candidates must be nominated by their superior at the organization where they are currently employed. Self-nominations are not accepted.

The programme prioritizes candidates from least developed and lower middle-income countries.
