Organization Description
Established in 2021, Global Health EDCTP3 is a partnership between the European Union , represented by the European Commission , and the EDCTP Association, representing the governments of 15 European and 30 sub-Saharan African countries.
Global Health EDCTP3 works to deliver new solutions to reduce the burden of infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa and to strengthen research capacities to prepare and respond to re-emerging infectious diseases.
Global Health EDCTP3 focuses on the major infectious disease threats facing sub-Saharan Africa, including HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, lower respiratory tract infections, diarrhoeal diseases, neglected, emerging and re-emerging infections. Our scope also includes overarching areas such as antimicrobial resistance, climate-crisis-provoked changes in infectious disease incidence, digital health solutions, and co-infections and co-morbidities.
Global Health EDCTP3’s objectives are set out in the legislation creating Global Health EDCTP3. Our general objectives are to contribute to:
‣ The reduction of the socioeconomic burden of infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa by promoting the development and uptake of new or improved health technologies.
‣ The increase of health security in sub-Saharan Africa and globally by strengthening research- and innovation-based capacities for preparedness and response to control infectious diseases.
