Organization Description

The United States and the Republic of Rwanda enjoy a partnership that began in 1962 just after the Rwandan independence. This Rwanda-American partnership is deeply rooted in the shared ideals of our two countries. The U.S. Embassy in Kigali works together with the Republic of Rwanda to strengthen our partnership by advancing the key goals of regional stability, economic prosperity, and democratic transition within the Republic of Rwanda and in the Great Lakes region. Through its diplomatic and public activities, the U.S. Embassy seeks to ensure regional stability through our shared commitment to security organizations like UN Agencies, Great Lakes and East African security organizations.

We support economic activity by encouraging U.S. commercial ties with and promoting U.S. investment in the Republic of Rwanda. We actively support the transition to a vibrant democracy that encourages civic participation, legal reform, and respect for human rights. Our third goal is to promote health with special emphasis on combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. Our historic partnership is alive and thriving today in the U.S. Embassy’s engagement in the Republic of Rwanda.

Mission Statement

America’s purpose in Rwanda is to help create the political, economic and social conditions that will lead to the development of a prosperous civil society that embraces the principles of democratic governance and respect for human rights.

To achieve these goals, we will design and implement a variety of political, humanitarian, economic, and military assistance programs that support U.S. interests in aiding Rwanda’s transition to sustainable development while securing regional peace and stability in Africa’s Great Lakes Region.

We invite you to learn about the mission and activities of the U.S. Mission to RWANDA. Our pages include descriptions of the principal Mission services and policies, and a wealth of information on the United States. We have also included links to other Internet sites, research institutions and government agencies so that our page provides a window to the world.

We believe that our pages will be a welcome addition to the public affairs resources available in RWANDA. We hope that you will explore our pages and return often as our home page grows to meet your needs. If you have any questions or comments, please address them to: ACSKigali@state.gov, or directly to the appropriate embassy section.
